Chrono Trigger Days#21, 22, and 23: The Wings of Time

My next three days of Chrono Trigger bring the plot closer to closure, although I’m not sure I’m near the end yet. A key part of the game changes to a more final form, and some secondary characters are starting to rise up and become major plot elements. More really good fights  and more inventive in types and combinations of enemies. But at the same time, the game suffers again from interface problems that make it a little more confusing than it should be. Spoilers within.

Chrono Trigger Days#18, 19, and 20: Islands in the Sky

I’ve played Chrono Trigger a lot and haven’t had time to post, so look forward to six days in quick succession. The first three days grow my party, see more weird narrative, and take me to an all new time period. The new era is nothing  I would have expected and that’s a quite cool surprise.  But the best in these three days are the fights. The enemies just keep showing new and innovative forms — they keep coming up with cool puzzles with their great combinations. Oh, and a genuinely creepy prophecy. Spoilers within.

Assassin’s Creed 2 Day#15: Carnivale in Venezia

Day 15 is two assassination and a lot of side stuff. There’s a very nice set-up to the main assassination of the night, and they showcase just about every mechanic they’ve got. I also think I desync more in this session than I have in the rest of the game combined. All that and of course more cash money. Spoilers within.

Chrono Trigger Days#16 and 17: Enter the Magus

Long days 16 and17 and we cover a lot of narrative ground. There’s a series of time jumps, the accomplishment of one quest, some decent backstory on a party member, and the introduction of a major set of opponents. Along the way are some of the most beautiful retro-graphic animations and scenes I have seen, and fights that are pure, unadulterated fun to beat. Didn’t I tell you how you should have bought this game already? Spoilers within.

Assassin’s Creed 2 Day#14: Un migliaio di piccoli tagli

Day 14 is a short session that’s all set-up. I basically spend the whole session preparing for a major plot point. This is largely okay, but there’s a lot of small frustrating stuff every step of the way. It ends with a first part of a multistep mission that’s fun,  but one stupid, stupid puzzle ruins the rest of the experience. Spoilers within.

Chrono Trigger Day#13, 14, and 15: The Quest for the Stone

Next three days of travel are time hopping questing.  The plot of the road I’ve gone done runs all over the place, and involves more and more challenging opponents. Old characters return and brand new party members are introduced. The game retains a host of interesting narrative touches and small set-piece mechanics, and I even think I’m seeing a full-fledged theme here. If you haven’t already gleaned this, Chrono Trigger is very, very good, and you shouldn’t be waiting for me to finish these if you haven’t played it yet. Buy it. Spoilers within.

Assassin’s Creed 2 Day#13: Vive la rivoluzione

Just past two weeks of gameplay (sort of ) and I get through some major plot. I’m pretty sure that I’m more than halfway through the game, but endings do tend to rush up on me.  I take some time to do some clean-up around a few locations, which actually reveals little by way of new stuff to find.  After that, it’s a major assassination and more of the story movement revealed. Spoilers within.

Chrono Trigger Days#10, 11, and 12: Journeys through Space and Time

The next three days of Chrono Trigger get me into the heart of the story, and there’s a major jump in interactivity. I am now able to choose what level I access at what point, and it seems to me even at this early stage that there are plot points that I can activate or fail to find. The potential narrative implications of that are fascinating. Fighting gets significantly harder as I now have to pay much more attention to the strengths and weaknesses of my enemies. Also, my party reaches its limit. Spoilers within.

Assassin’s Creed 2 Day#12: Comprimi di fiorini

Day 12 of Assassin’s Creed 2 is a short one, but only in time. Dear Lord, you get rich quick in this game. I spend my time doing some clean up, and it is just ridiculous how much cash I have.  I also get a nice multipart mission as my one moment of plot. Spoilers within.

Assassin’s Creed 2 Day#11: Alla Venezia

Day 11 in Assassin Creed. The beginning pisses me off like nothing else in this game. It was almost enough to lead me to quit. I hold out though and get out of a bunch of lameness to return to Ezio’s story, with the introduction of new characters to the plot and a bunch of maintenance stuff for the RPG-ish parts of the game. That stuff gets back to the fun parts, but tread carefully, AC2.  Spoilers within.
